Mission

UGS “Nezavisnost” has been established and acts out of the necessity for the independent, autonomous and democratic trade union organization, whose first assignment was to confront the war and sanctions and then the organization has had the active role in the development of the country. UGS “Nezavisnost” wants neither the monopolistic position, nor the share of political power, but to participate, through the development and promotion of the social dialogue, as an equal and competent partner, in the economic and total social changes. It has always been the mission of UGS “Nezavisnost” an it determined their strategic and programmatic orientations, and their position at domestic and international trade union scene.

Vision

The vision of UGS “Nezavisnost” is free, democratic, economically developed, internationally recognized and respected Serbia, which would have highly developed individual and collective freedoms and rights – Serbia with high level of awareness, as well, whose employees, all the citizens, and especially the holders of key functions would be ready to take responsibility. UGS “Nezavisnost” accomplishes its mission and vision through realization of proclaimed principal aims – development and promotion of democracy, and, as well, implementation of the acceptable and righteous economic and social reforms, in the creation of which all social partners equally participate.

Strategic objectives

UGS “Nezavisnost” intercedes in favour of:

  • Democratically regulated relations in all spheres of social and political life;
  • Confronting the citizens and empolyees with the real political and economic situation, the consequences of the war and long-term crisis;
  • Creating a real strategy based on all social consensus and on building up institutional mechanisms of the social dialogue, in order to overcome the crisis;
  • A modern market economy, based on the partnership of labor and capital;
  • The fight against corruption and organized criminal;
  • Developed system of democratic institutions, with the citizen placed in the centre of the system;
  • Legal and social state;
  • Individual freedoms and rights, along with the development of the equality, solidarity and tolerance;
  • Multiparty parliamentary democracy, focusing its power in the parliament;
  • Cooperation with other trade unions at home and abroad, based on the principles of trade union solidarity and strengthening the democratic, international trade union movement.

In order to accomplish its goals, UGS “Nezavisnost” uses all the democratic, legal and legitimate, internationally recognized means and methods of the trade union struggle.

UGS “Nezavisnost” represents the interests of employees in the following areas:

  • Labour market policy;
  • Labour and social law;
  • Legal protection;
  • Safety and health at work and environmental protection;
  • Housing policy;
  • Wage policy and amount of wages;
  • The protection of standard of living;
  • The protection of the strategic interests of employees, in the process of privatization and transition in the whole
  • The rights of the pensioners, as the part of labour and civil rights;
  • Social and health policy;
  • Economic policy;
  • Participation of workers in decision-making;
  • Monetary, financial and tax policy;
  • Pricing policy and the politics of consumption;
  • Cultural policy;
  • Ensuring and promoting gender equality;
  • The politics of education and training;
  • Other areas formulated by the competent authorities of UGS “Nezavisnost”.
