TCI 2016 cluster conference Eindhoven, Netherlands

The leading worldwide cluster event the 19th TCI Global Conference had been held in the city of innovation Eindhoven in Netherlands last week gathering over 500 practitioners and academicians from over 60 countries.  It was superbly hosted by teams from Brainport Development and Wageningen University in Eindhoven. It was also a great opportunity to meet personally the people behind the network and experience the spirit of it.

The TCI Assembly members strongly supported the initiative of the TCI Asian Chapter establishment led by Prof. Dr Geunwoo Ryu, dean at Keimyung University Daegu S. Korea. The TCI Network Asia Chapter is heavely supported by Korean Industrial Complex Corporation KICOX and Daegu Metropolitan City based on needs for knowledge sharing between Asia’s developed economies and its emerging economies discussion of diversify cluster development models, increased membership through expansion of exchange between developed and emerging economies around East Asia and between Asian clusters/companies and those on other countries / a good example is the signed MoU between Keimyung University Daegu and the Balkan Black Sea Cluster Network members within the 7th BBS Conference Days of Clusters in Ohrid, Macedonia, in September 23, 2016/.

TCI President Dr. Christian Ketels was moderating the Summit Day with good practical examples on cluster polices in India, USA and Russia. Cluster evaluation group had been managed by Madeline Smith and James Wilson at the Academic Track during Working Day. Klaus Haasis gathered the TCI mentors during Summit Day. Tracy Scott-Rimington leaded the TCI Oceania Chapter introducing participants to an interesting delegation from Australia. Jaime Echeverri had coordinated activities of the TCI Latin American Chapter.

Dr. Danka Milojkovic, director of the Cluster House Balkan & Black Sea Cluster Network, at the Academic Track „Collaborative Learning“ presented the topic “The importance of the cluster-based cross-border cooperation programme to broader regional networking and entrepreneurship development in the Balkans” with the following key learning points:

  • The importance of the cluster-based CBC programme to creation of a highly trustworthy and ethical work environment that provides long-term employment in the specific economic sectors determined after survey;
  • The contribution of the cluster-based CBC programme to share of population living below poverty in the Balkans reduced with special focused on the programme beneficiary countries;
  • The introduction to cluster-based economic development model in the countries in transitional economies.

The cluster-based CBC programme aims at the public-private dialogue development as a pre-condition for sustainable economic development in the region. Information and publicity events for popularization of clusters in the beneficiary countries are tools for export trade collaboration improvement between both countries, involvement of new members in the existing clusters and promotion of the clusters networks created by the programme to the markets of other EU regions/countries.

Within the conference session “A taste of worldwide cluster approaches” moderated by Dr. Danka Milojkovic, gathered cluster experts from four continents: Asia, Europe, North America and Africa. All clusters all over the world are different but they are from the same family.  Korean mini clusters as a new way for social-economic growth, Mexican cluster policy as a key ingrediant of other regional development polices, Russan Industrial Clusters concept and success stories of the Mexican and Russian Automotive Clusters, and Tunisian post-conflict cluster development initiated by the Association Tunisia Technoparks.

RS-CZ CROSS-CLUSTERS SME TRADE FORUM IN PRAGUE

The first CZ-RS Cluster Forum was held in Nis, Serbia on 13th of October 2016 with aim to make an introductory step in connecting export oriented SMEs and clusters from Czech and Serbia. The first RS-CZ Cluster Forum was held in Prague, Czech Republic on 2nd of November 2016 in enabled business environment for making concrete business meetings and potential agreements for future partnerships, projects and export-import jobs.

Within the accompanying business matchmaking event between Czech Republic and Serbia in Novi Sad in September 2015, under the patronage of the Czech Prime Minister Mr. Bohuslav Sobotka and Serbian Prime Minister Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, supported by the Czech and Serbian Chambers of Economy, the MoU between the Czech National Cluster Association and the Serbian Cluster House had been ceremonially signed.

The six-month project CZ-RS CrossClustersNETworking SME Trade Bridge, based on the setting up of trade cooperation between export oriented SMEs in Czech and Serbia using the clusters as an efficient tool for transnational connections, started in May 2016.

The project is implementing in the framework of Aid for Trade Programme – Serbia, co-funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Check Development Agency, the Serbian Cluster House and non-financially supported by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia and the Czech Embassy in Belgrade.

During the CZ-RS Cluster Forum in Nis, representative of the Serbian Buisness Women Association and their members supported by the Cluster House initiated the first Serbian Women Cluster Initiative.

October 14, 2016 Check delegation attended the Tourism Cluster Learning Trip „Davil’s Town“ UNESCO protected location within the frame of the Torusim Cluster Radan Kursumlija, South Serbia, with the aims of getting better overwie of the development of cluster-based value chain, hearing the Serbian cluster best pratice and to contribute to the further internationalization of the clusters and SMEs cooperation in this part of Serbia.

The special significat of this event is that it was organized during the week when the Serbain Prime Minister with Ministries spend a week in the City of Nis with the aim to better understand needs and challenges of Serbian people from the South East Serbia which is the poorest part of Serbia but with the huge capacities in agriculture and food processing, textile, construction, wood processing and furniture production, metal, energy and IT.

From 1-3 November 2016 the Serbian Cluster Family will visit Prague with the aim to further develop business cooperation which started in Serbia and to support transfer of lessons learnt and the best practices in the filed of cluster-based economic development.

The following project outputs will be achieved:

  • export-oriented clusters and SMEs in the CZ & RS is mapped and business cooperation is initiated
  • interactive web platform/forum for direct business cooperation between the CZ & RS developed
  • case studies of the successful internationalisation of SMEs in clusters in CZ & RS are created
  • Internationalisation strategies of two clusters in CZ & RS are prepared.

The best way to predict the future is to create it. For the seventh time the Balkan and Black Sea Cluster Family contributed to creation of better future in the region supporting the DAYS OF CLUSTERS 2016 in Ohrid, from 22-24 September.

The City of Ohrid was the city of clusters in the Balkans 2016 providing the great opportunity to cluster actors to exchange knowledge and experience, meet each other, create new partnerships and all of those together with enjoying in Macedonian hospitality, delicious food, wine, history, nature and music.

This year’s conference gathered over 150 cluster-based economic development experts, academicians and cluster experts from the 5 continents: Asia, Australia with Oceania, North America, Africa and Europe; 27 countries had been involved in the practitioners and academic tracks preparation and implementation: New Zealand, South Korea, USA, Malawi, Australia, France, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Tunisia, Montenegro, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Check Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, BiH, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Macedonia and Serbia.

One of the most important conference achievemnet is the signing of the grand transnational Agreement oN Cooperation  between the South Korea and the Balkan Black Sea Cluster Family with friends, initiated by Dr. Danka Milojkovic, Cluster House Director and the Global TCI Network Board of Directors Member. Representatives from clusters organizations from Hungary, Bulgaria, BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Romania, Macedonia, Albania and Slovenia signed the MoU with the Keimyung University Daegu South Korea , Prof. dr. Geunwoo Ryu, Dean and an initiator of the Global  TCI Network Asia with Oceania Chapter. The general objective of the Agreement is bridging the transnational regions closer based on the socio-economic R&D twinning programmes development.
